Ways to Excersise with Fibromyalgia

Legs of a young man running

If you feel sore all over after  you workout, it is usually more of an “out of shape” issue than a fibromyalgia issue.

The human body ADAPTS to most things, included exercising. If today you walked a few miles and felt sore, after a a few weeks of walking a few miles a day it wouldn’t bother you as much or even at all.

My advice would be to slowly, gradually increase your workouts. If it just seems to hard to handle walking 2 miles at a time, start with 1.5 miles first, then go to 2.0 miles after you master the 1.5 miles.
Don’t forget that stretching before and right after work out will help tremendously. Warming-up prior to exercise is ESSENTIAL to get your blood flowing to all the extremities and muscles you are going to exercise…

You could also consider water aerobics, walking/running in water or swimming for exercise, physical therapy, and weight control. However a key part of this is that the pool is appropriately heated and set up for aquatic therapy. Water aerobics uses all the muscles of the body, burns more calories due to the resistance of the water on the body, but still decreases the impact on the muscles and joints.
