The Don’ts of a Fibromyalgia Diet

Always consult with your Doctor before starting any new change in your diet. I recommend keeping track of what foods help alleviate your symptoms and which foods seem to increase your symptoms.

Here are 5 foods to consider eliminating. Hopefully these can help you to feel a little better and increase your energy levels.

• Aspartame – Many Experts agree that aspartame can increase fibro aches and pain, by turning on pain receptors in their brain. It is believed that fibromyalgia patient’s sensitivity levels to these receptors are higher.

• Caffeine – It’s not uncommon for fibromyalgia sufferers to try and fight feelings of fatigue and low energy with a nice cub of Joe. While caffeine has been known headaches in all walks of people, its dehydrating effects are what is most concerning to those dealing with fibro.

• Dairy products – Although dairy contains calcium, some believe that dairy increases gastrointestinal symptoms. This opinion can differ from one to another but could be wise to limit dairy intake to avoid irritation of the gastric system.

• Gluten – This isn’t new information to most, Many people already know that a lot of fibro patiens are gluten intolerant too. You may get bloated or discomforts when eating anything with gluten, as well as loosing energy.

• Sugars – Avoiding yeast, sugars and white bread should be helpful. Eliminating these from your diet can also help to lose or maintain weight, which often times can decrease pain.

Keep a Food Journal

On paper On Purpose! I highly recommend to start a food journal. It helps you to maintain a healthy diet if you can keep track. So naturally keeping a journal will help you to plan ahead for meals. You will know what you eat before you eat it. You have a plan in place and don’t have to eat out of impulse anymore! Being able to review your journal and see where you are deficient in can be very beneficial.
